Organ descent

What’s it all about?

Prolapse… that stressful word that defines a descent of organs into the vagina.

We’re talking about the bladder, uterus or rectum pushing down on the vaginal wall, forming a ball that you can feel or see if it comes out. The most frequent symptom is a sensation of perineal heaviness, sometimes accompanied by urinary problems such as recurrent urinary tract infections, urine leakage or, on the contrary, difficulty in urinating, but also anorectal problems (constipation or anorectal leakage) or pain or discomfort in your sexuality.

The bladder, uterus and rectum are in their proper place when supported by the perineal hammock and suspended by ligaments. With age, vaginal deliveries and the menopause, the ligaments tend to distend and the perineum to lose its strength.

Even though it’s common with ageing and menopause, it doesn ‘t have to be this way, and solutions exist to improve your feminine well-being.

Risk factors

  • Age
  • Menopause

  • Chronic constipation
  • Obesity

Solutions

Bladder, uterus and/or rectum slipping into the vagina… it’s quite common after a certain age, but it doesn’t have to become a handicap! Proper rehabilitation can improve your symptoms.

A check-up with a pelvic health professional will help you to identify these sensations of perineal heaviness, put your feelings into words and detect any associated problems, such as bladder weakness.

A tailored, easy-to-follow treatment program that includes muscle-strengthening exercises to improve support for the viscera, abdominal strap work without putting pressure on your viscera, posture correction and awareness of poor everyday gestures… this whole “perineum” routine will bring you a new level of comfort in your life.

So don’t hesitate, give yourself the time you deserve to take care of your feminine well-being!

It's up to you!
